All Four LISD High Schools Qualify for State Academic Decathlon

For the seventh time in almost as many years, all four Lubbock ISD high schools earned berths to the State Academic Decathlon meet.

Lubbock High School won the Region 1 Academic Decathlon regional tournament in the large-school category on Saturday guaranteeing the Westerners a trip to the state meet.

Coronado High School and Monterey High School came in second- and third-place respectively, but generated scores high enough to win at-large berths to the state tourney.

Lubbock High student Johanna Neuber was the highest scoring student in Region 1.

Estacado came in second place at the Region 7 meet held in Katy, Texas last weekend, but also generated scores high enough to go to state as an at-large team. Forty teams compete in the state tournament in the large-school category, twenty-five in the medium-school category and fifteen in the small-school category.

Lubbock ISD remains the only school district in Texas to send all of its four high school Academic Decathlon teams to state seven times..
