Juvenile Arrested For Shooting Exotic Deer

On Sunday night, Kenny Ellis, the owner of Kenny's Korral, heard a gunshot and discovered his 4-year-old pregnant fallow deer had been shot in the back. The deer later had to be put to sleep.

A juvenile has been arrested for criminal mischief to an animal in connection to this shooting. That is a federal charge. The Lubbock County Sheriff's office tells us there are two other suspects in this case.

They say the three suspects were driving by the corral Sunday night, and one shot the deer. Deputies recovered the weapon from the driver's house, but the Sheriff's office tells us the passenger was the one who fired the single shot rifle. The juvenile is being held in the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center and charges are still pending on the other two involved.

Owner Kenny Ellis says he couldn't imagine why anyone would do this. "I would just have to ask him why. There's no reason for it. There's just no reason for it," said Ellis.

Ellis says he is now in the process of building another fence to prevent this from happening again.

We wanted to know if these three suspects could be connected to the recent mailbox vandalism in Lubbock County and the sheriff's office tells us they are looking into that possibility.
