Breast Cancer No Worse for Pregnant Women

Women who develop breast cancer while pregnant are not necessarily worse off than those who aren't pregnant.

MD Anderson Cancer Center researchers say data on more than 600 breast cancer patients found no significant differences in the 10-year rates of cancer recurrence, cancer spread, or survival among those who were pregnant and those who were not.

Pregnancy was found to delay diagnosis and treatment of cancer, however. Pregnancy-associated breast cancers are still relatively rare, but could become more prevalent as more and more women wait until later in life to become pregnant.
