Community Medical School Discusses Childhood Obesity
Community Medical School continues on Tuesday with the topic "Fed Up- Childhood Obesity". Tuesday's classes are led by Dr. Patti Patterson, a TTUHSC pediatrician, who says that kids today are coming to the doctor with adult problems, "Childhood obesity rates have pretty much tripled in the last 30 years. Along with that, we're seeing what, in the past, were adult disease, in children now- high blood pressure, cholesterol lipid problems- lots of other things that in the past we didn't really worry about in children & we're having to worry about them now- diabetes, of course, being the really big one."
There is still time to sign up for TTUHSC Community Medical School. The price of classes is $20 for seven weeks of classes on Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. All ages are welcome. If you would like to enroll, just call (806) 743-2008.
