Roger Haldenby of Plains Cotton Growers says this year's crop is great. He says it could challenge some record harvests. Timely rains and effective boll weevil eradication have made for some happy farmers, but if rain around the area keeps up, it could rain on their parade.
"At this point, it shouldn't impact the number of pounds that we take out of the field, but bad weather can lower the quality and therefore lower the effective price of that crop," says Haldenby.
Haldenby says about 85% of cotton from Lubbock north has yet to be harvested.
