Amarillo health officials have found more cases of West Nile Virus in humans, one of which was found after that person donated blood. The donor felt flu like symptoms after donating and later tested positive for West Nile. Fortunately, the center pulled the blood before it was distributed. The other case was a Potter County resident. Both people have fully recovered.
An off duty Dallas Police Officer died Wednesday morning when his patrol car exploded after it was struck. The officer was sitting in his cruiser when a Jeep hit the car from behind. The car reportedly burst into flames killing the officer. Officer Patrick Metzler was an eight-year veteran of the police force. He was 31 years-old. EMS took the driver of the Jeep and his passenger to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police believe alcohol and speeding may have caused the accident.
Nearly 60 dogs removed from just one house are now facing an uncertain future. Ft. Worth animal Control Officers brought them in Tuesday afternoon at the homeowner's request. Veterinarians are now checking all the dogs, but so far they all appear healthy. City workers hope to place the dogs with local rescue groups, but say many may be put to sleep.
