PLAINVIEW, TX (KCBD) - Overnight, police investigated a report of suspicious activity inside the Plainview Peanut Plant. Police confirmed there were employees inside the plant at 1:30 Friday morning. Plainview police say there was no obvious violation of state law or local ordinance. Officers did report the activity to investigators with the Food & Drug Administration.
PCA was ordered to close the Plainview facility this month when it was discovered never acquired the proper permits and inspections required by law.
Also on Friday, the plant's owner, Peanut Corporation of America, filed for Bankruptcy in Lynchburg Virginia. PCA's plant in Georgia (not Plainview) has been linked to hundreds of illnesses and several deaths due to salmonella. However, products from the Plainview facility are subject to a recall after state officials announced that dead rodents and rodent droppings were found above the production area.
