LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - NewsChannel 11 has new information on the hiring of Lubbock County's new medical examiner, Sridhar Natarajan. A letter signed by Judge Tom Head on February 6th confirms Natarajan's salary at $450,000 per year or $37,500 per month.
It also says Natarajan will not allow a physician in-training to do autopsies on what it calls "obvious crime victims." The letter says that if a resident physician finds evidence of a crime that the autopsy stop and Natarajan be called in to finish.
Local defense attorney Tommy Turner says this arrangement creates legal questions. But above that - Turner says this arrangement could result in lost evidence and other problems when a defendant goes to trial.
