A Lubbock Police Officer says the suspect in an aggravated assault trial may have wanted police to shoot him. The statement came during the second day of testimony in the trial of 42-year-old Domingo Flores.
Police shot Flores in May of 2007 during a confrontation at 39th and Avenue N. According to a 911 caller, Flores had threatened to kill his wife. The caller told police he'd already fired a few rounds.
Officers say Flores ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon, and when he pointed the gun at them, one fired back. Tuesday, the officer who fired the shot testified that he believes Flores tried to taunt officers to commit "suicide by cop". The trial continues Wednesday.
