LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - More than 140-nations agreed Friday to negotiate a legally binding treaty to phase out the use of deadly mercury. Mercury is a toxic metal that threatens the health of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
The agreement came at a United Nations meeting of environment ministers in Kenya and follows statements from the Obama administration that it may join a ban. Earlier this week, President Obama's administration said the U.S. had reversed its stance and is now in favor of a mercury ban.
