On Monday family and friends said good-bye to a Dallas Police Officer killed in a car crash last Wednesday. Officers from around the area gathered at a church in Dallas to remember the life of Officer Patrick Lee Metzler. Metzler, an 8-year veteran of the Dallas PD, was remembered as a dedicated officer who loved his work. He died last week in a fiery explosion after an SUV rear-ended his squad car. The driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Jeffery Scott Goddard, is charged with "intoxicated manslaughter." Officer Metzler was 31-years-old.

U.S. Senate hopeful John Cornyn and Governor Rick Perry joined forces in Dallas on Monday. The two are touring North Texas to gain support before the election next week. Cornyn faces democrat and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk. Governor Rick Perry is running against Laredo businessman Tony Sanchez.

Meanwhile, the Sanchez campaign was in the South Texas town of McAllen over the weekend. He spoke at an NAACP banquet about the need for equal opportunity in education. Early voting for the election is extended this week until 8 p.m. in Lubbock County.
