Trick-or-Treat Taste Test - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Trick-or-Treat Taste Test

They unwrapped, they chewed, they tasted and they savored. We used the expert taste buds of Ms. Leach's 4th grade students from Cooper North Elementary for our taste test. The students sampled seven different types of candy.

First, it was the chocolate. Students tasted Nestle plain chocolate, Reese Peanut Butter Cups and Snickers Crunch. On a scale of one to five with five, being the best, 10 out of 16 students gave both plain Nestles chocolate and Reeses a five compared to only one five for the Snickers. So, if you want to please your trick or treaters this year, these young consumers say chocolate without peanuts is a good bet.

The taste testers then tried out cherry Twizzlers, Sour Punch Twisters and candy corn. The Sour Punch Twisters are a definite buy this Halloween. Ten of the students gave the candy a five. As for the cherry Twizzlers and the candy corn, the vote was split down the middle.

The final candy tried, turned out to be a crowd favorite with the exception of one student. She said the Jolly Rancher was too sour but most students liked the candy because it was sour and sweet.

So, these young consumers, say trick or treaters want chocolate bars and sour candy, especially Jolly Ranchers in all flavors. For NewsChannel 11's Consumer Connection, I'm Sharon Maines.
