Violent crime statistics up for 2008

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - In a report released Wednesday by the FBI, violent crimes increased about 6 percent in Lubbock last year. 

Nearly 2,100 violent crimes were reported in 2008, 145 more than in 2007. Vehicle burglarlies increased 3.8 percent. Home invasions more than doubled last year over 2007 from 28 to 13.

But there is encouraging news as well, the number of rapes and homicides dropped in 2008.
