With most kids getting prepared for Halloween on Thursday, it's important to remember some basic safety tips. NewsChannel 11 spoke with DPS Trooper John Gonzalez on Wednesday about what you and your kids can do to stay safe on Halloween.
Gonzalez says to make sure your kids have adult supervision, keep them out of the street, and don't let them wear dark colored costumes. When they get back, make sure you check the candy before they dig in.
"If you find wrappers that are unsealed or broken, we do encourage you not to eat those items. They could be spoiled or something could be placed into them," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez also says it's best if your kids only go to people's houses that they know.
