LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It was another rough day on Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 fell to new 12 year lows Tuesday.
The state of the economy is on the minds of most Americans, including here in Lubbock. The market may be down but one group here on the South Plains is trying to keep spirits high by helping you make the most of your money. And, believe it or not, the service is free.
The Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation wants to help you become financially literate through a workshop this Saturday. They will walk through budgeting, the importance of credit scores and looking where you spend your money and how to get out of debt. "What we are trying to do is help families to understand and use their money. We tell people you work hard for your money. Make your money work hard for you," said Gloria Mendoza with the Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation.
The free literacy workshop is Saturday at the Lubbock Housing Finance Corporation, at 3212 Avenue Q and it's open to anyone that wants the information. The group has a lot of useful tips planned for Saturday's session.
