LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - If you've escaped the flu bug this year, don't breathe a sigh of relief yet. On Tuesday's segment HealthWise at Five, Dr. Richard Lampe, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the Texas Tech Health Science Center said that we are not out of the woods yet.
"In Texas, it appears to be peaking, but it can still happen in late March, April, even in May. So get your immunization," says Dr. Lampe.
Dr. Lampe added that remember the best way to protect against the flu and other viruses is frequent hand washing, especially in a hospital before visiting a patient. He says it is as important for visitors to have clean hands as it is for doctors and nurses to wash their hands between patients. And he says if soap is not available, use a hand sanitizer.
