New Program Working to Stop Drunk Drivers

A program started in October and aimed at drunk drivers already appears to be working. Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Lubbock Police attempted to stop a Mercedes leaving the Depot District.

The car was on I-27 and hit an exit sign at 50th St. Police eventually pulled the driver over at 58th St. and Ave. Q. Police smelled alcohol on the driver and he was arrested.

Earlier this month, the Lubbock Police Department received a federal grant to start the S.T.E.P. program. It pays for officers to specifically look for drunk drivers.
