The annual Mayor's Beans & Cornbread luncheon kicks off Friday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Mayors from all over the South Plains region will gather on March 6, 2009 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall for the 20th year to help Hospice of Lubbock with its largest fundraiser, The Annual Mayors' Beans & Cornbread Luncheon. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this event, this year's receiving line of mayors will include past mayors who have hosted this special event, as well as any past mayors who served our communities prior to the beginning of the luncheon.

As is the tradition each year, a celebrity duo is invited from the area's great radio and TV personalities to emcee the event from the stage and keep the fun happening and the donations flowing!!

This year Jim Douglass, Randy Sanders and Jeff Klotzman of FOXTalk in the Morning (950.AM) have graciously agreed to help us, along with one of Hospice of Lubbock's BIGGEST HEROES....Don Caldwell and his Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine. Don will bring a great line-up of Cactus Theater Stars again this year to keep the joint jumping'. Paul Corcorran of River Smith's will be serving his famous BEANS and Klemke's Sausage Haus in Slaton is bringing in their RAIDER ALLEY links.

Vegetarian beans will be available for those observing meatless diets for Lent. Starting at 11 a.m. and going until 1:30 p.m., beans, cornbread, desserts and drinks will be served buffet-style while the music plays.

The $10 ticket price for all this great food and fun has not changed in 20 years!! Tickets are available at the door or by calling Hospice of Lubbock at (806) 795-2751.

The 3rd annual TIP YOUR WAITER CONTEST will be going on during the event with the "waiter" turning in the most tips being awarded the coveted GOLDEN APRON AWARD. All tips will be donated to the mission at Hospice of Lubbock.

There will "BEANO" Auction and there will "BEANO" Raffle. Just door prize drawings to say "Thanks" for supporting the event. Tickets ($10) can be purchased at the door or by calling Hospice of Lubbock (806) 795-2751.

The event is a "come and go" affair, however most attendees come and stay. Hospice of Lubbock is the ONLY Non-Profit Pediatric & Adult Hospice in this region. No one has ever been turned away for lack of ability to pay. Hospice of Lubbock was Lubbock's first hospice and has served Lubbock and the surrounding 18 counties for over 20 years.
