Five dead in northwest Lubbock County crash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Friday night, the Texas Department of Public Safety says five people are dead after a car accident in Northwest Lubbock County.

Corporal John Gonzalez says just after 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, a blue SVU and white car crashed at the intersection of FM 2641 and CR 1700. This is just south of the Lubbock city limits near the Clovis Highway.

Gonzalez says among the dead are three children, one of whom was thrown from the car along with another man. Ages not clear due to severe damage to the white care.

Sergeant Brian Smith says it appears the blue SVU may have failed to yield the stop sign, "It looks as if the blue SUV was travelling north on CR 1700 and appears to have disregarded or failed to yield at the stop sign. And it looks like it struck the white passenger car," said Sgt. Smith.

Both drivers were taken by AeroCare to University Medical Center for treatment. DPS says, at this time, it is not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and the accident remains under investigation.
