LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It was almost a year ago NewsChannel 11 was telling you about the death of Brandon Byrd. On Monday, his classmates gathered at Irons Middle School to honor his life, create the Brandon Byrd Ring of Honor and release balloons.

Classmate Brandon Barber says those balloons are a symbol. "They symbolized that he's still with us. And he always will be with us everywhere we go. I still believe he's helping us out," says Barber.

"I didn't know him too well, but he lit up the room. He was a great guy. I enjoyed him. I really did," said classmate Trenton Lord.

Brandon Byrd died after a motorcross accident. His organs were donated, so in a sense, he lives on through the organs he donated to other people.
