Lubbock police officer involved in accident at 82nd Street & Slide Road

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police are investigating an officer-involved accident Monday night at the intersection of 82nd Street and Slide Road.

The accident happened just after 9 p.m. Monday night. A Newschannel 11 photojournalist on scene said the accident involved a Lubbock Police SUV and a Saturn sedan.

Public Information Officer Kasie Whitley said in their initial investigation appears the driver of the Saturn failed to yield the right of way to the police SUV.

Whitley said the SUV had its lights and sirens on and heading through the intersection when the accident happened.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection of 82nd and slide is shut down until further notice. We ask drivers to avoid the area.

Whitley said crash investigators hope to have the intersection open for the morning commute.
