LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Texas Tech school of Education employee was killed in a crash in Coleman County on Monday around 2 p.m., according to Troopers with the Department of Public Safety.
Officials say 48-year-old Casey Kester Herrin was driving west on SH-153, about eight miles west of Coleman, when her vehicle veered into the north bar ditch and struck a guardrail. Her vehicle continued West, crashing into a drainage embankment, went airborne, landed and came to rest in the north bar ditch.
The crash is currently under investigation.
Herrin died at the scene.
Texas Tech released a statement on the loss of one of their employees:
"On Monday, October 8th, the College of Education at Texas Tech University lost a colleague and a friend. Casey Kester Herrin served as a Professional Development Facilitator in the Teacher Education Department, but what Casey meant to the College cannot be captured in a job title. She was committed to both her students and her coworkers and was passionate about improving education and mentoring young teachers. Casey will be deeply missed by all who knew and worked with her. The College of Education will shine a little less brightly without her smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with Casey’s family.”
Services will be held on Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.
