LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lady Raider basketball team is gearing up for one of their biggest tests of the season, Sunday afternoon, when they host No. 8 Baylor.
Just two days ago, the Lady Bears had a historic win when they defeated No. 1 UConn 68-57.
Coming into the game, the Lady Bears strength is their 6-foot-7 senior Kalani Brown.
“Kalani is the best 5-player in the nation and everybody knows that,” Lady Raider head coach Marlene Stollings said. “She’s up for all the national awards and deservedly so. It’s hard to have someone 6-7 the way she moves. I mean, she’s coming down for a layup (against UConn) on the break. She’s a rarity in our sport. There’s not someone like her coming up in the younger age groups. You look at Brittany and Erin, we’ll look for them to play more and be in the mix. We’re going to need their size and even playing them at the same time is something we’re very open to.”
The Lady Raiders are one of the few teams that can counter Baylor’s size – with Brittany Brewer and Erin DeGrate.
Currently, coach Stollings and the Lady Raiders sit third in the league in scoring offense at 78.4 points per game led by freshman Christlyn Carr.
Tech is second to only Baylor in rebounds per game at 49.5.
Tip off for the game is at noon and it will be televised FOX Sports.
Make sure to tune into KCBD Sports Xtra after the 10 p.m. news on Sunday night for full coverage of this game.
