LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One of the largest employers in the Lubbock area is asking for help from the community.
The nearly 7,000 employees at Covenant Health depend on a strong volunteer force to help with patient dismissals, flower and newspaper deliveries, greeting folks and answering phones, just to name a few.
For some reason right now, the hospital is down about 70 volunteers. So, Lauren Orta, the hospital’s manager of Volunteer Services, is making a desperate plea to find about six dozen friendly faces. She says it would be a great New Year’s resolution to give back to the community as a hospital volunteer.
"There’s definitely a strain on the volunteers right now because there are so few. This is a perfect New Year’s Resolution for anyone looking to try something different in life where they can give back to the community and to the people in need here in the hospital.”
Lauren adds that shifts are normally from 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m., although there are some shifts that may vary.
Covenant Health is a very big place, caring for about 450 patients on a given day. Volunteers are needed in many different areas including the Children’s hospital, the Cancer Center, the Surgicenter or the Medical center.
Lauren says instead of just volunteering to come every once in a while, they are looking for folks who would like to commit to a regular schedule.
