LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This week Lubbock health inspectors checked out the cleanliness of more than 70 kitchens.
KCBD NewsChannel 11′s Christy Hartin tells us what they found in this week’s Food for Thought.
Einstein Bros. Bagels at 4525 Marsha Sharp Freeway had 13 violations.
- Several items were thrown out because they were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
- A carton of egg was on a prep table. It must have a time stamp to be left out of a cooler while in use.
- Labels were not being removed from food containers. Cutting boards were dirty.
- Ready-to-eat yogurt and fruit cups were held past their use-by date.
- A hand sink was blocked.
- Cups and lids were broken.
- Employee’s drinks were uncovered.
- A spray bottle was not labeled.
- A reach-in cooler was dirty.
- Both the walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer were dirty.
The inspector notes, due to the number and the nature of the violations management did not show proper food safety knowledge.
The report shows most violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
Raider Burrito at 10007 Slide had 13 violations.
- Multiple food items were not cold enough.
- Raw foods were allowed to thaw at room temperature for more than four hours.
- Soda nozzles were dirty. Racks in the walk-in cooler were dirty.
- An employee handled raw foods and then ready-to-eat foods without washing their hands.
- Toxic items were not labeled or stored properly. Personal medication was on a food-prep table.
- A cooler was not working.
- Kitchen utensils and food contact surfaces were dirty or broken.
- Vegetables were not stored properly.
- Walls in the kitchen were not in good repair.
- A light cover was missing in the food prep area.
- There was no certified food manager posting.
The inspector notes, due to the number and the nature of the violations management did not show proper food safety knowledge.
The report shows several of the violations were corrected during the inspection.
