CLOVIS, NM (KFDA) - A Clovis man will spend the next three years in prison after a woman says he sexually assaulted her while attempting to sell her a vacuum cleaner.
In March of 2017, the victim reported that she was assaulted by a Kirby vacuum salesman.
According to the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office, DNA evidence led police to Brandon Barron of Clovis.
Barron was convicted of criminal sexual penetration in November of 2018.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over Barron’s sentencing hearing and lamented his inability to punish Barron more harshly.
“I think it’s ridiculous that our legislature has chosen three years as the maximum sentence for this crime,” said the judge told him. “That is the break you are getting.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Barron is required to register for life as a sex offender and will likely undergo substantial probation time after his release.
