Tech takes another AP Poll hit, drops to No. 18
Coach Chris Beard during SEC/Big 12 Challenge

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Tech men’s basketball team has taken another hit in the Associated Press' Top 25 college basketball poll, after the team was dropped two places from last week, making it No. 18.

This is the the fourth time Tech has dropped in the poll since week 11, going from No. 8, to No. 14, to No. 16 and now -- in Week 14 -- to No. 18. The only other Big 12 team to stay on the list is Kansas, at No. 13, which has also dropped two spots.

Last week was another so-so week for the team, getting an impressive near-20-point win over TCU during an ESPN Big Monday broadcast. But on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Tech lost 79-63, which put into question some hopes for a Big 12 Conference title.

Overall, Chris Beard’s Red Raiders are in good shape, with a winning record of 17-5. But the conference play record is still a bit of a scab on the team, as Tech clocks in at 5-4 in Big 12 play.

Now making the rounds again in the conference, the Red Raiders will play West Virginia for the second time, Monday at 8 p.m. inside of the United Supermarkets Arena. Monday’s game is another Big Monday ESPN broadcast.

Afterward, Tech will go up against Oklahoma, another team the Red Raiders beat previously. For the full poll rankings click here.
