LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - According to officials with Rise Academy Charter School in Lubbock, school is cancelled Thursday and Friday, Feb. 7 and 8, due to the flu epidemic.
The school says there have been nearly 75 absences over the past few days, and many teachers are also sick.
School will resume Monday, Feb. 11 at regular time.
Officials are asking parents to not call the office about the closure.
February and March are the peak season months for the flu. Doctors at Covenant Medical Center say going to the emergency room is not necessary. You are urged to go to your primary care doctor. Going to the ER will just spread the flu virus.
It’s not too late to get your flu shot.
While many people with the flu are fine after a week, there can be deadly complications for others. Doctors say old and young individuals are at the highest risk. Keep an eye out for breathing problems, sudden dizziness, chest or abdominal pains, and confusion.
