Snyder Police investigating officer-involved shooting

SNYDER, TX (KCBD) - Snyder Police were on the scene of a shooting involving one of their officers Thursday evening. The incident happened around 6:35 p.m. in a home in the 3600 block of Jacksboro Avenue, near Snyder Primary School.
Police say the call came in as a suspicious person in the area, and confirmed to KTXS-TV in Abilene that one of the officers shot and killed the unidentified person. The officer has been identified as Whitney Merket, a seven-year veteran of the Snyder Police Department.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were on the scene assisting Snyder Police Thursday night. The officer who killed the suspect has been put on administrative leave, which is typical protocol in situations like these.
The Texas Rangers have also been called in. The suspect’s body has been taken to Lubbock for an autopsy.
