LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - As the Red Raider football team resumes Spring Football drills after Spring Break, Junior Running Back Da’Leon Ward, Junior Defensive Back Demarcus Fields, Junior Defensive Lineman Joe Wallace and Redshirt Freshman Wide Receiver Corey Fulcher were not practicing Tuesday with the team.
Coach Matt Wells said afterwards, “It’s internal reasons. We are going to get it straight. They could be back soon. They could be back in a while or could never be back. We’ll see.”
Asked if they were suspended, Wells answered, “You could call it that I guess. They’re not practicing right now. So we have to get some things cleaned up off the field and we’ll get it done.”
Specifics were not given, but Wells added, “They aren’t practicing with us right now. Nothing related to Spring Break. They’re not doing the things we want them to do so they’re not practicing right now.”
When Coach Wells came in as the Red Raiders new head football coach he stressed it’s all about the Double T logo. As far as suspending the players indefinitely, Wells stressed. “ We are not going to lower the standard. There’s a way to do things around here and It’s an honor. It’s a privilege to work and the play and to coach at Texas Tech. Nobody is entitled and I’m not inferring that those guys are. I’m just saying that we’re going to do things the right way around here, or we’re not going to play or practice or coach.”
The Texas Tech football team will hold an open practice Friday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm inside Jones AT&T Stadium."
