SLATON, TX (KCBD) - A man who was wanted on a parole violation for an aggravated assault on a public servant held two people hostage for a short time in Slaton on Thursday afternoon.
According to Slaton Police Chief Trevor Barnes, police attempted to arrest Joseph Luis Gonzales Jr., 41, around 4 p.m. on the active warrant when he ran into a house near South 3rd and Powers in Slaton.
Officials say he barricaded himself inside the house and started making statement about having hostages inside. Gonzales let the two hostages go unharmed shortly after barricading himself. About 45 minutes later, as the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was arriving to assist, Gonzales surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.
Officials say there were no injuries reported in the incident.
