LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Tech Co-Ed Cheer and Pom squads are National champs, bringing home the trophy from Nationals in Daytona, Florida.
The Pom squad began practicing for this competition back in August. They have earned titles in jazz dance and pom dance over the past couple of years and hope to continue that tradition this year.
When we spoke with them on Thursday, Senior Jordyn Groover said the squad’s closeness would help them stand apart from their competition.
“Everyone is college is an elite dancer and an elite team, but we work really hard to train our bond and train our mental toughness," Groover said. “I think that is really just a legacy that Tech pom has worked really hard to accomplish.”
The Texas Tech co-ed cheerleaders also competed in Daytona.
Head Coach Bruce Bills says they have a strong tumbling team and have worked to step up their stunts for Nationals.
“We are all just really pumped to get out there because this is what we work for all year,” said TTU Senior Deylon Kirschling. “We come in day in and day out and practice and so now we are about to take the road and go to this final moment for us.”
