LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It is an exciting time for basketball in the Hub City.
From the Red Raiders making it to the Final Four and the LCU Lady Chaps winning their second-national title – there is a basketball buzz in the air.
Tuesday afternoon, KCBD Sports went out to Lubbock Cooper High School to speak with the Pirates new basketball coach – as former Red Raider Will Flemons is coming back to the Hub City lead the Lubbock Cooper boys basketball program.
“I am very excited. You know, the rich tradition that Cooper has, and we are going to try to get that back,” Will Flemons said. “You know, with the buzz of basketball around the city – it is perfect timing.”
For the last five years, Flemons has been a principal at Paducah and has helped with their basketball programs.
“I was a principal there for five years,” Flemons said. “I was the head coach for the boys for two-years, assistant for two-years, and this year – we couldn’t find a coach for the girls. So, I had to head up for the girls, so it was a constant go.”
That constant go won’t stop for the former Red Raider – as he transitions into this new job at Lubbock Cooper.
What kind of coach are the Pirates getting in you? – asked in the interview.
“One that is a tireless worker. We are going to play hard, we are going to play defense and I think we are going to have some fun,” said Flemons. “I think when you put those combinations together and get the right combination – you have the opportunity to win. You know, my goal here is to be the best team in the City of Lubbock.”
