LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Elks Lodge on Milwaukee, KSSL Radio and the Lubbock Elks Lodge are working together with Texas Dive Center of Lubbock for the fifth annual Texas South Plains Honor Flight Radiothon.
This event will raise money to send area World War 2, Korea and Vietnam era veterans to visit their war memorials in Washington D.C. in October.
There will be a pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 10 a.m. that will have all the fixings. There is no set cost for the breakfast but the Honor Flight staff is asking for donations to help send the veterans to D.C.
During the breakfast, attendees may start bidding on silent auction prizes which will include a basketball autographed by Texas Tech Head Coach Chris Beard, tickets to a Texas Ranger Baseball game, an Amazon Fire Tablet, autographed music CD’s and more.
There will also be train rides and face painting for the kids and for the adults that are still kids at heart.
Food trucks are scheduled to be in the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At 5 p.m. bids for the silent auction will be closed.
The Lubbock Elks Lodge Elk Riders will also be sponsoring a bike ride from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost for the Bike Run is $20 for a participant and $30 for a participant and rider and all proceeds will be donated to the Texas South Plains Honor Flight.
During the duration of this entire event, there will be an 11 hour broadcast on KSSL 107.3 and 94.1 FM and on www.ksslfm.com. The broadcast will feature stories from area veterans who has previously traveled to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight as well as several ways the listeners can help.
Veterans are invited to stop by the event and share their story as well.
