LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There may be no more deceitful expenditure of our tax dollars than government paid lobbyists who lobby the legislature against our interests.
Right now, lobbyists for Lubbock County, the city of Lubbock and many others are flooding the legislature trying to persuade lawmakers to vote against property tax reform, against property rights, and other measures the majority of Texans support.
That’s right, your tax dollars are being used to lobby the legislature for the right to raise your taxes without limits. Last session the city of Lubbock opposed increased protections for firefighters and first responders.
But House Bill 281 aims to stop the practice of taxpayer funded lobbying directly and indirectly, and one thing you can be sure of: elected city and county officials and their lobbyists are against the bill.
A version has already passed the Texas Senate. Many of our local lawmakers support the bill.
Consider this... it is time to stop using our tax dollars against us!
Encourage your lawmakers, and city and county officials, to support HB 281 to stop taxpayer funded lobbying once and for all.
