Dryer and warmer, for now

This video covers today's storm outlook, and previews what may be our next severe event

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A slight chance of storms and rain continues over the southeastern KCBD viewing area this afternoon. By evening storm activity will shift to the southeast and out of the KCBD area. Our updated RainCast is included in today’s accompanying video, and an updated rain total list is included in this story.

Partly cloudy elsewhere this afternoon, with a light wind and cool but pleasant temperatures. Wind speeds generally will remain near or less than 10 mph, with the exception of gusty winds with any shower activity in the southeast. Highs will range from the mid-60s to near 70 degrees.

Mostly sunny and warmer weather returns tomorrow. Thursday afternoon will be a bit breezy with highs ranging from the mid-70s northwest to low 80s southwest.

More sunshine on Friday, with another breezy and warm afternoon.

I'm expecting a hot afternoon Saturday, the last one of April. In addition, the day will be partly cloudy and breezy. Remember to use sunscreen and a hat, and drink plenty of water (or other non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated fluids).

I've brought my forecast high for Sunday down slightly, as data this morning indicates slightly cooler air may arrive sooner rather than later. Watch for additional changes which may be made.

Strong to severe thunderstorms may return early next week. We'll be watching the new data arriving between now and then in the First Alert Forecast Center and updating our forecast accordingly.

After yesterday's story here, the Lubbock airport measured an additional 0.01 inch of rain. That brought Lubbock's rain event total to 0.53", the total for April to date to 1.55" (0.54" above the average of 1.01"), and the total for the year so far to 2.72" (which includes a correction from yesterday, and is 0.79" below the average of 3.51").
