LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Young boxers are working hard ready to showcase their skills this Saturday and Sunday with the West Texas Junior Olympics Box-off Fundraising Event being held at the CenterPointe Event Center at 4925 Marsha Sharp Freeway.
Saturday’s sessions are at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Sunday starts at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 per session for teens and adults and $12 for kids. There is also a weekend pass for $50 for teens and adults and $30 for kids.
Out at the Lubbock Boxing Club on 4th street, a bevy of boxers were hard at work preparing for this opportunities as winners advance to State in Laredo and one step closer to the West Texas Junior Olympics. Rosie Barker of the Lubbock Boxing Club says these young boxers are focused.
“It’s a lot of work, especially for the fighters. They have a lot of dedication, determination and discipline. They’re training is more intense now, pretty much six days a week.”
For 10 year old Pau Pau “The Champ” Lloyd, who was featured on Pee Wee TV back in 2015, he’s excited to get in the ring. “I’ve been training for a long time for this. I really want to win so I can get better and work harder.”
