Lubbock Police arrest 2 following brief chase near TTU’s Greek Circle

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Two men are in police custody after leading police on a brief chase in a stolen pickup Thursday afternoon.

The suspects, 25-year-old Harvey Young and 33-year-old Kenny Bonner, have been charged with two counts of theft of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading on foot, failure to identify and unlawful possession of a firearm, among other charges, according to Lubbock police.

An officer spotted the stolen pickup driving near Quaker Avenue and 14th Street, close to Texas Tech’s Greek Circle, around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The officer tried to pull over the truck but the driver continued on and a brief pursuit ensued.

The suspects left the truck at Slide Road and 11th Street and continued to run from officers. One of the men was arrested close by in the 5200 block of 11th Street and the other was arrested in the 4400 block of 8th Street.

Two stolen guns were found in the pickup. One of the guns was in the pickup when it was reported stolen on Tuesday and the other was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary on March 14.

At this time there is no bond amount listed for the two suspects.
