LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - May is skin cancer awareness month. And according to the National Cancer Institute, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the U.S.
Melanoma is the most common cancer for young adults. When caught early, skin cancer, including melanoma, is highly treatable.
There were some free skin cancer clinics in Lubbock for what has become known as Melanoma Monday... but if you missed them you have another chance, thanks to the dermatology department at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.
They are holding a free skin cancer screening this saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Southwest Cancer Center.
Dermatologists will also be there to talk about the clues that a mole or spot on the skin is not normal.
Skin examinations and referrals for subsequent treatment also will be provided. No appointments are needed.
