LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Julia Stephen, the current assistant principal at Irons Middle School, will step into a new role as the Coronado High School principal next year.

This announcement came after a Thursday morning Lubbock Independent School Board meeting. She will replace Jerry Adams, who is leaving to take an assistant superintendent job at Comfort ISD, a school northwest of San Antonio.

Stephen is relatively new to Lubbock, coming to the district in 2018 following a stint as associate principal at Kennedale High School and assistant principal at Kennedale Junior High School, southeast of Fort Worth.

Congratulations to Julia Stephen, who was named the new principal of Coronado High School by the Board of Trustees this morning!

She earned undergraduate of Midwestern State University in 1998 and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University in 2014, according to an LISD news release. Her teaching career started at Witchita Falls ISD in 1996, where she was both a teacher and a coach.

Accolades of hers include a secondary teacher of the year award in Mansfield ISD in 2016. Stephens also has a principal certification and lifetime certification in secondary biology and physical education.

Her husband Shane Stephen is also the athletic coordinator and football coach at Lubbock High School.
