CLOVIS, NM (KFDA) - A Clovis man pleaded guilty to a child abuse charge and was sentenced to 19 years in prison, according to Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb.
In November of 2017, 32-year-old Jackie Cubit of Clovis got into an argument with his wife, threw a glass jar candle at her and missed. The candle ended up hitting their infant daughter in the head.
Cubit’s daughter suffered a subdural hematoma and had to be airlifted to Lubbock for treatment.
On Monday, May 13 Cubit pleaded guilty to first degree child abuse causing great bodily harm and was sentenced to 19 years in the Department of Corrections.
