LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - According to a release from Crosbyton ISD Superintendent Shawn Mason, on Wednesday, May 8, around 3:30 p.m., a bus carrying 25 high school students was forced to take “evasive action” to avoid a tractor on Highway 82, four miles west of Crosbyton.

The bus, returning from a field trip in Lubbock, was heading east along Highway 82, the tractor was traveling on the highway’s right shoulder.

In avoiding the tractor, the bus over-steered across the east lanes of the highway and into the grass median. The driver was able to regain control of the bus and bring it to a stop.

Adults on board assessed the condition of the students and made the decision to return to the school district. After arriving, the Superintendent says the District received reports of various injuries from students and parents of students who were on the bus.

According to the release, Crosbyton ISD is working to assist students and their families, and they encourage them to continue their communication with school officials regarding the incident.
