LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Lubbock Police Department continues an investigation around Ironton Avenue and a part of 66th Street by the Stonebridge at Ironton apartment complex near the 7000 block of Ironton.

Residents in the complex will be diverted from the area as an investigation continues into a standoff situation between a man and police.

The standoff started around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday morning after authorities were called to the scene because a man in the complex was threatening to harm himself.

On scene officers were able to set up a perimeter but because the man was posing both a threat to himself and surrounding residents additional officers, SWAT team members and negotiators were called to the scene.

Though negotiators did try to talk the man out of harming himself, they were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:30 a.m.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 will update this story when the area is cleared and law enforcement has left the scene.
