SLATON, Texas (KCBD) - Emergency crews are on the scene of a fire in the 1300 block of S. 10th Street in Slaton.

The Slaton Fire Department was called to the fire around 1 p.m.

Kade Kitten, assistant chief for the Slaton Volunteer Fire Department said they found two duplexes on fire. Kitten said the fire started in the east side building and crossed the carport to the southern building.

Both structures were vacant at the time of the fire and they say no one was inside. The residents had been evicted previously.

The fire was mostly out by 3 p.m. Slaton VFD will monitor smoke conditions. The remains of the buildings will be taken down once there is no more danger of the fire reigniting.

No injuries have been reported and no word on the cause of the fire yet. Slaton police are investigating.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area.
