LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -A few showers for the area through the early evening, then skies will clear for the overnight hours. Tomorrow’s chance for rain will be about the same, except in the northern South Plains where a 20% chance will exist due to the potential of a weak cold front in that region. The remainder of the South Plains can expect these isolated showers and occasional thundershowers through Friday.
The rain chances will increase slightly by Saturday night, but the best chances for rain will not return until Sunday. It does look like rain potential will be much better for most of next week, especially in the mid to later part that time period.
As tropical moisture returns by Sunday and stays in place through early next week we could experience some very heavy rainfall once again across the region.
As for those afternoon temperatures for the region, it will be hot. I expect daytime highs to range from near 90s degrees in the northwest South Plains to the mid 90s along the caprock to the east and to the south. Those hot temps will remain through Friday will a slightly cooler trend by Saturday and Sunday.
Next week it will be cooler as clouds, moisture and possibly a cold front move into the area. Afternoon temperatures will stay in the low 80s from Monday through Thursday. There is a possible strong cold front that may knock temps down to the 70s on the South Plains and 60s in the panhandle mid to late next week.
