LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - In the past year, Lubbock Animal Services took in 8,000 pets.
Starting October 1st, Lubbock Animal Services will start implementing new fees when it comes to surrendering animals.
The fees will go as follows: $30 for a person who lives within city limits, $50 for a person in the county, and $75 for pets surrendered from outside Lubbock. The new fees were approved by the City of Lubbock Budget. Those fees will ultimately cover how much it costs to take in a surrendered pet, covering the vaccinations, medication, and micro chipping.
Lubbock Animal Services Director Steven Greene says he hopes this will create more responsible pet owners in Lubbock and get people to look at different options rather than just bringing pets to the shelter.
