6 cases of coronavirus reported from Lubbock nursing home

The City of Lubbock has confirmed six additional cases of COVID-19 associated with Whisperwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, located at 5502 4th Street. The health department is also investigating three suspected cases and is waiting for test results. These cases were identified through the contact investigation and screening process that occurred over the last two days. Additional testing and screening will continue over the next few days.
The health department and state regularity agencies have recommended control measures for the facility, to which it is compliant and working to implement all of the changes. Additional personal protective equipment was delivered to the facility on March 26. The City of Lubbock Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management are working to secure additional resources and staffing to support the facility and reduce further transmission.

The city has is tracking 31 cases investigated by the health department as of Friday. The nursing home exposures are cases 24 through 29. These include one patient and five nursing home employees.

There were no new exposure sites listed in connection with these cases.
The health department is working with the facility to make sure they have appropriate protective equipment and to make sure they are taking proper precautions. The health department has asked that staff work only at this location and quarantine themselves between work and home.
The city is conducting an investigation into possible exposures in other nursing homes, spread by Whisperwood staff.
The other two cases reported Friday were a travel exposure and another exposure to a known case. The city has 90 tests pending as of Friday. They expect to see those results over the next two days.
The city is NOT issuing a shelter in place order as of Friday.
