LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Lubbock Police Department is investigating a police chase, led by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, that ended in a crash near 98th Street and Avenue P.
The chase started shortly after midnight when a sheriff’s deputy tried to pullover someone driving a Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation near 82nd Street and Avenue P. The deputy found the driver, 21-year-old Jihad Pollard had an outstanding warrant and tried to arrest him.
Pollard took off in the vehicle, starting the pursuit, and continued on through 98th Street. He lost control after running a red light, going into a nearby field and rolling several times.
He was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.
Lubbock police will continue an investigation in that area at 10 a.m. and will block off the road for about an hour. The department is asking residents to avoid the area.
The same area police will investigate is also where a crash involving a police officer happened on May 8. There’s no indication the two are connected.
