Police say man struck by train Saturday morning was “sleeping on the tracks”

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A pedestrian died in a collision with a train at 66th and Southeast Drive, on East Loop 289, close to the Lubbock Animal Shelter Saturday morning.

The call came in around 7 a.m., Saturday, May 23. Police say the individual, 30-year-old Gerardo Perez III, was sleeping on the rail road tracks when the train came through.

Perez failed to clear the tracks before being struck by the train.

Lubbock Police later confirmed the pedestrian died of their injuries. Their identity has not yet been confirmed.
