LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Many know Dr. Ron Cook as the Lubbock Health Authority. But he was wearing a different hat on Monday at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Cook was presented the Lubbock Osteopathic Endowed Chair in Family Medicine. That is one of the highest academic honors.

Osteopathic means he is now a D.O. instead of an M.D. This means a lot more hours to include the study of holistic medicine.

With the endowed chair position, Cook will lead the way in deciding how $1.1 million will be spent to support charitable organizations and further the education of others pursing a career in osteopathic medicine.

“It really includes about 200 extra hours in a typical medical school curriculum,” Cook said. “It is recognized now across the nation and the state of Texas. We all take the same licensing exam.”
